Enjoy Dry January – in a Pub!

Dry January at the Cross Guns Pant

After Christmas and New Year, there’s often a slump in trade in the hospitality sector and the recent snow won’t have helped.

For a number of years now, we have all been encouraged to sensibly limit our alcohol intake for the benefit of our health. This is something none of us can be against and in fact, one of the advantages of having a responsibly-run local pub is that it can provide a safe space for people, especially young people, to drink.

More recently, there has been a trend of giving up alcohol for the month of January, the so-called Dry January. Again, for many people this is an important New Year’s Resolution and thanks to the wide range of alcohol-free beers, wines and spirits and tasty mocktails, a resolution many people can stick to.

A community-owned Cross Guns will happily embrace Dry January, and in part that’s the reason we are planning to open in a more café-style during the day, where alcohol consumption plays a smaller part of the business. Oh, and we would plan to have Veganuary cakes and meals available too!

As a community-owned and run business, we will always be aiming to provide what our customers and member owners want.

We know that people getting together is highly prized in a community – just look at the number of people who meet up on Pant Pop-Up Pub nights – so we hope you spare a thought for publicans who are still open for you, if you fancy popping out to meet friends and family, but who are seeing lower visitors this month.

“Many local pubs would welcome your visit this month, so, if you are doing Dry January – please do some of it in a pub!”

Our next Pant Pop-Up Pub is on Friday 23rd January from 6.30 pm at Pant Memorial Hall – please come along with or without your favourite mocktail!
